Stained Glass Window treatment
Notes:
- our wood framing has darkened over the years
- our wood framing is too narrow for the size of the windows
- our wood framing is not the same size all the way around
To lighten up the church, God's light:
- 1st choice: paint the framing the same color as the wall
- 2nd choice: refinish the framing and replace side boards with a wider, beveled board
Visiting other churches (online):
- stone cathedrals have no wood framing, so no distinction in color between the wall and the window, no distraction from the window to the frame.
- Wood and plaster churches like ours have framing for structural support. When the framing is painted the same as the wall then the emphasis is on the window and the look is more like a cathedral/stone church.
EXAMPLES: Wood and plaster churches with painted framing to blend with the wall and put emphasis on the window. 4 of these examples are from Coastal Living magazine, southern churches. Click to enlarge.
Examples of stone churches - the framing is the same material as the wall, so there is no distinction in color between the window framing and the wall. These are here to think about the early churches and early stain glass windows.
