Flooring
Brighten and lighten our sanctuary.
Our recommendations for the main flooring and a strip of carpet down the middle aisle:
- Main flooring
- Rayon carpet tiles that reflect some color in the windows
- Carpet on the middle aisle extending into the narthex: Solid color, high quality material picking up a bright color from the windows like red, blue or green
NOTES:
This flooring could be used from the narthex into the kitchen and fellowship hall. That will give a calmness and easy transition. Easy to clean. Easy to replace a tile if damaged. Installers will have special tools to punch holes for bolting down the pews.
Audio HoH cable will be placed under the tile (fabric or Vinyl). The installers will put down a strip of tape, then the cable, then another strip of tape. The tile will be laid after the HoH cable.
The flooring options (least to most expensive):
- carpet tiles
- used by Marshall Baptist church (Rayon), large corporations, hotels
- improves acoustics by absorbing sound and reducing echoes
- dampens noise from foot traffic, things dropped during service
- could create a warmer and more inviting atmosphere
- carpet tiles could be easily replaced as they are worn or stained
- made of Rayon (higher pile) or polyester (short pile); rayon carpet tiles are rayon fiber (regenerated cellulosic fiber from plants) over foam padding non-PVC paddings are available. Some polyester carpet tiles can be made of recycled polyester.
- Linoleum or vinyl tiles
- durable - used in airports, high traffic
- vinyl can have a 6mm (or thicker?) underlayer specifically to absorb sound and reduce echoes (audio folks like this)
- the
- linoleum is made from natural, renewable resources like linseed oil, cork dust, and wood flour, and is biodegradable. Compostable. Vinyl is made from PVC, synthetic plastics.
- Hardwood or engineered wood.
- damaged engineered wood planks can be replaced can be
- the least effective for good sound in the room
J&J Carpet tiles were examined.

This reminds Ellie of the effect created by walking through a portion of the Billy Graham Center Museum in Wheaton, Illinois with marbly tile and sky. We would have marbly tile (prettier, though) and our beautiful windows.
